Thank You From Rebecca

Rebecca Eller Lee
Now that I've caught up a little on my family "stuff" I wanted to Thank all of you for taking the time to come and visit with me and for letting me get to know you. I'm very impressed with the women Shelli has chosen to surround herself with and am very grateful for all the help, love and support that you give her. Amy and I have both felt sad that we are not closer to help our amazing oldest sister (mother bear), but now that I have been with you all I see that she really does have sisters there too.

Keep her laughing and talking! I know there is power in prayer and hope that Shelli will feel comfortable in letting more know so that we can have even more prayers for her!
Thanks for letting me be a part of your group!
Love to you all-Becki

Happy Birthday to Shelli

Shelli Eller Jones
Team, my Birthday was one of the best days I have had. It was a great beginning to a new year! I will cherish the memories of today by recalling your visits, delightful gifts, heartfelt sacrifices, shopping excursions, the eating of food and the incredible Bday Party where we got to step out of ourselves for a moment...

...Drea (Jacq Latte) was the evil murderess using a syringe of cyanide to kill my Mother, Cocoa Channill (Head of Thornbury's Chocolates to Die For Company), Natalia (Kit Kat) was the sleezy trainer who had the affair with my Father (Ray Channill), Tiffany was the Detective with the imaginary big, threatening gun who constantly demanded our fingerprints, Lisa (BeeBee Channill) was the good lookin gambler, Michelle (whom I work with) owned a competing chocolate company, Deon (Hazel Nutte) was a pious, 'chocolate is not good for you" nutjob, and my Sister Becki was Marsha Mallow, the Biographer of Cocoa and lastly, I was Shopin Channill, who was a spoiled, preferred to shop rather than work, no-do-gooder. Each played her part with perfection. It made for a night of laughter, memories and grand teasing topped off with a Symphony of Chocolates, Cheese and Chocolate Fondues and interesting dialogue. Absolutely enjoyable! Pictures to come.

Thank you, Thank You Everyone!

Sister is Coming to Town

  • Shelli Eller Jones
I am past due at posting and its all my Sister's fault for keeping me so well entertained over these last few days. We had fun shopping, getting massages, going to Gardner's Village, visiting with family and did I mention shopping? No wonder my character at the Bday party was named, Shopin Channel (with French accent). Becki even watched the kidlets while Lance and I enjoyed a date together Sat. night. Thanks Sis.

Chemo went as well as it could. I have felt considerably more tired and drained, but am sure its from playing to much in celebration of my Bday. I am battling some sort of an infection and started on anti-biotics today. I went to Frequency Therapy and plan to go to the Sauna tonight if I can find Sir Energy. Thank you to those who have pitched in to watch Cooper and checked on me recently.

More to come as I learn it. Hope ya'll are doing well.

  • Shelli Eller Jones
Having some issues necessitating infusions....it will be ok though because my Sister is coming to town. Today will be a good day!

I read this quote recently and it won't leave my mind, so I thought I'd pass it along.
"All the suffering in the world comes from wanting happiness for oneself, all the happiness in the world comes from wanting happiness for others." (Shantideva)

Hello Dear Team. . .

Shelli Eller Jones
Hello Dear Team.....I just had a good Frequency Therapy session today-Thanks Lisa, which really seems to help me. My Sister arrives tomorrow and I can't wait for ya'll to meet her. The Party is coming together...as a mystery murder dinner we have been assigned characters and mine is supposed to dress in "Tall boots, mini skirt and skimpy shirt," brings back fun memories :) ha ha. Should be rather entertaining! You are awesome Tiffany for throwing such a Unique Bash, you are so creative. BTW, for those of you attending the Party, please refrain from Cancer-talk as there will be others there who do not know (yet). Thanks.

Pure Palpable Exhaustion

Shelli Eller Jones
Pure palpable exhaustion, with a hint of craziness, a flare for nausea/vomiting, a steep decline in blood sugar levels and a complete absence of appetite, is me post Chemo. I forgot to mention the spinning show of Mr. Dizzy and Mrs. Light-headed when I sit up, walk or crawl.....awww good times. Two treatments down, Six to go! Yeah Team. Thanks for the visits and tea.

Shelli Eller Jones Forgot to mention the rasberry red rashes I get in certain places. Potential hair loss starts the 2nd or 3rd week....I'm ready for it ;) sort of. It could be worse ya know.

    • Laurel Bayer Plumb Oh Shelli - I love your honesty. D&C 24:8 is my new favorite scripture. The Lord teaches us that trials will happen, they are a part of life and be patient through them as we endure and the Lord will be with us. In hind sight of certain trials I believe this to be true and now treasure the sweet moments in those trials where the Lord taught me of His ways. I love you so very much dear friend and can't wait to see you in February! And I am on braod for running a race this summer as well!

Hello Friends and Family

Shelli Eller Jones
Hello Friends and Family. Just had an interesting experience with a relative who asked about my current symptoms and then quickly interjected that she is in a state of denial and prefers to stay there. I would be in denial too if I could... Everyone handles this differently and I have come to respect that. This is not easy stuff to cope with, so I need to just get better and be done with it once and for all don't I? Well I am trying, its just taking longer than I anticipated :) Thanks for hanging in there with me. Chemo treatment #2 will be Sunday morning to allow for more downtime since I have to work a lot this next week...ugh.

I noticed no one readily accepted my invitation to run a 5K with me this summer....scared? Of what? I'm sure I'll run slower than you, but I will finnish the race. Sisters, are there any cool races to be run in Texas this summer? It has to be for a cool, non-cancer cause--like 'Save The Whales' or 'Strut Your Mutt' or for 'Haiti Children." That sounds reasonable to me. Any takers?
    • Natalia Mery-Dent i will run one here in sl with you.. lol... i would prefer a 'save the whales' run, but will settle for a 'strut your mutt' if i hafta!! ;)
      January 14 at 9:52pm ·

    • Michelle Antoinette I like "strut your mutt" and Yes! I will run one with ya!!!
      January 14 at 9:57pm ·

    • Tiffany Snedaker A relative is in denial about your symptoms? Hmmmm...I guess you are right when you say everyone handles it differently, but I'm wondering how that benefits you as a support when someone else is in denial?
      January 15 at 9:13am ·

    • Shelli Eller Jones Talked with this relative again today...she said her denial is her way of keeping her feelings and thoughts in check and to make sure I don't have to deal with them. Needless to say, I informed her of the latest and she said she would be more supportive of me and spend time with Courtney.

1st C. Treatment

Shelli Eller Jones
Well team, the first C treatment is history. It was a miserable experience as the meds are potent and it felt like a thick sludge going in. I felt weak, dizzy and nauseus but remained until I felt better. I slept/rested for 6 hours afterward and that night slept for 10.5 hours. I feel much better now, just weak and slower.

In a meeting of the MD minds, they decided to hold off on radiating my abdominal tumor for my body's sake, determined to address my low blood sugar issue, and stated this will probably get worse before we see positive results.

I survived it and appreciate the help in watching my kids while I had downtime. One of my summer goals is to run another 5K....if you would like to join me that would be great. I will overcome this---there is not another option. Yea Team!

On Your Marks. . Get Set. . .Go!

On your marks, get set, GO......the time has arrived to vanquish the foe. I am ready! Chemo here I come.

I ate up a storm last night with some friends watching a good game of Football (too bad Oregon did not win). A salon nicely cut my hair a tad shorter. I slept decently and am eating breakfast as I type this. I received a comforting priesthood blessing last night which gave me pause to think-Thank you Todd and Nelson. Immune System is Battling!

Shelli Eller Jones
First round of labs indicate my immune system is battling. Yeah! If the next set of labs on Monday also look good, Chemo will start on Tues. So I am trying to eat more now as my mouth is void of sores and the vomiting/nausea is manageable. I am accepting all milk/white chocolate donations....:) I have re-started Frequency Therapy which is the use of electromagnetic waves to kill pathogens in my body and have started to utilize the Sauna more often to improve lymphatic system. Massages are slated to begin next week to help decrease the release of stressful chemicals in my body which negatively impact my immune system.

Adenocarcinoma is the most common type of lung cancer in lifelong non-smokers and women. It accounts for 40% of lung cancers. They grow more slowly and form smaller masses than other types of cancer. However, they tend to form metastases widely at an early stage and is not responsive to radiation therapy.
My having had tuberculosis (TB) from my mission could have made my lungs more succeptible to cancer as TB raises lung cancer risk.

    • Shawna Huff-Fillmore This is good news- keep going to the sauna, FT theraphy and massages, sleep lots and lots, keep growing your immune system.

My dear friend Jean would say. . .

Shelli Eller Jones
My Dear Friend Jean would say, "Shelli, Heavenly Father can't keep you from trials but He can help you through." I believe her and know that He does. Having a Healing Team ensures purpose, fortitude and support in surviving a trial of this magnitude....truly we are on a life-saving mission together! I look forward to the post where I declare in bold, "I am cancer free." Won't that be an incredible day?
I believe that day will come dear friends, just not soon.

I had the PET scan two days ago. It produces a 3D image of processes in the body; showing detailed views of moving organs and structures. In the field of oncology it shows cancer using IV radioactive contrast. Several months ago with my 1st PET scan, two places lit up indicating cancer (my duodenum in small bowel and chest wall) these areas have been radiated and excitedly did not show up on this latest PET scan. Which indicates radiation works on my body. Wahoo!

Deep breath here.....the results of the latest PET scan show the cancer from my small bowel has metastasized or spread to other areas. There are two lymph nodes impacted, an abdominal cavity tumor, and two tumors on the lower lobe of my left lung. They are also watching an area by my liver. In my opinion, things could be a lot worse. As my Doctor's formulate plans of action, medication options and conduct some research, know that I am in good medical hands.

From my heart, I believe in this team, its power and unity. I am aware of the many fervent prayers, diligent fasts, temple visits, emails, texts, visits, encouragement , house cleanings, loving childcare, letters, rides, meals, service......from You. Its rather incredible and I Thank You! We can overcome this, I am optimistic about it. Keep the positive energy flowing, the upbeat attitude going and your Faith in the Lord strong. We can do this! New Terms

Shelli Eller Jones
The term Adenocarcinoma is derived from "Adeno" meaning pertaining to a gland and carcinoma, which describes a cancer that has developed in the epithelial cells (surface layer of skin, glands and other tissue that lines the cavities and organs of the body).

My primary tumor was in my small bowel and it was successfully radiated. A lymph node on my chest wall was also extracted and the area radiated. Both of those area looked great on the PET scan. So your prayers and fasting, service and love is certainly making a difference. More to come...

Learning so much. . .

Shelli Eller Jones
I have learned so much recently, let me share with ya'll: "Paraneoplastic Syndromes are remote, indirect effects of cancer not related to direct invasion of an organ by tumor cells. Often they are caused by chemicals released from cancers. Symptoms include: Anemia, Muscle Weakness, Skin Rashes, High Calcium Levels, Weight loss, Fatigue....."

It appears my breast masses and fortunately, the mass near my liver are 'fatty necrotizing calicifications' from high levels of calcium and significant weight loss. Who would have thunk. So the good news is, just to be clear, that the mass near my liver is NOT cancer--yea!!! no wonder radiation did not work on it!

Let's keep it positive people. We can do this. More to come.....
    • Tiffany Betteridge Ericksen
Wow, that is great news. How to get rid of excess calcium? Hmmm...

Onward and forward in the quest to fight and find answers.

      Thanks for update.

The Cancer Journey

Shelli Eller Jones
This cancer journey has been so challenging! Last week I truly did not believe I had the strength to battle it. The good news/progression comes in premature baby steps and the bad news/setbacks comes in leaps and bounds. I don't feel I am going backward, but it seems I could be doing more to move forward...more to come on this later.

Last week I learned that radiation had not eradicated the mass near my liver, but it did keep it from growing, which is good. There was some discussion about removing it when I had my lumpectomy surgery last week, but the risks outweighed the benefits. Results from the left breast mass removed last week indicate it was not cancerous!!! Great news.

I spent last night and most of today in the hospital getting 2 blood transfusions, platelets and blood clotting factor as well as infusions (antibiotics/immunotherapy meds) to battle an infection (condition is called neutropenia--low white blood cell count--which means my immune system is having a hard time). Getting IV Tordal was wonderful as it kept my pain in check. I was also given food supplements through a nasal tube to ease the small bowel bleeding. Most of you don't know this, but I have Von Willebrands bleeding disorder which has not caused much of an issue until cancer entered the picture. Good news is, I am feeling better and slept well thanks to great meds. Chemo was canceled for today because my immune system is taking a hit and chemo would exacerbate it. I did receive my PET scan this morning and results will be forthcoming.

This is a new year, a new beginning and I am optimistic and hopeful. Thank you for being apart of this journey with me...its less scary that way. Ever onward.

Thoughts from Shelli on the New Year

Shelli Eller Jones
The New Year is hours away and it holds endless opportunities, adventures, hopes and dreams. It means we close out the past year (thank goodness) and move forward. This is my focus at this time, moving forward no matter what happens. Our future is in the Lord's hands but as we don't know what lies ahead, enjoying the present makes sense. Relish this time dear friends! Enjoy the snowflakes falling down, the way the stars light up the night sky, the tender touch of a child's hand, the velvet words from a loved one, a tasty food, the smell of lavender, a deep embrace, a scripture verse that captures your heart, a cozy fireplace, a pet who gives unconditional love....soak it all in and cherish these moments.

I appreciate the many upbeat visits over this last week. Your encouraging comments, though provoking stories and attempts at getting me to eat food were compassionate laden and touching. You sure know how to keep my spirits up Team! Even the soiree last night at Ganel's was entertaining and certainly lively. Thank you Ganel for putting up with our considerable laughter....Happy New Year Friends! I sure love you!

Surgery Update

Hope you are all doing well and hanging in there this week! Looking forward to time together Thursday.

Shelli's surgery went pretty well. Good news is that doctors think the tumor they removed is similar to the last one--not cancerous. But they'll have definitive results back on Thursday.

Shelli is having a rough time post-surgery. Recovery wise, this has been the worst one yet. She has no energy and is very dizzy. Her blood sugar has been very low and she has lost blood through vomiting. She would like to handle the recovery process on her own, and so sent Lance and kids to Pocatello. However, she needs more help as she is still very unsteady on her feet.

I have up until about 5pm covered---various friends popping in to help as they can. If you are NOT already helping, would it be possible for any of the rest of you to help out this evening?

Please let me know!! Thanks,
Tiff

Merry Christmas to you all!

Tiffany Betteridge Ericksen
Merry Christmas to you all. Hope the last few days have been filled with joy and love! I (and Shelli) so appreciate the continued support, comfort, and love given even during this busiest of times. I've enjoyed a wonderfully low-key Christmas with family as did Shelli. She is now relaxing in Pocatello with Lance's parents, and should return sometime Monday morning.

A few updates:

Shelli had an appt. this past week to address a new lump found in her left breast (if you remember, a month ago, she had a procedure to remove a lump on her right side...) This current lump has grown fast, and is hard. Hoping that it was a just a cyst, Shelli was naturally disappointed to learn that it was not. Assumed by doctors to be worrisome, they skipped the needle aspiration, and the rascal-of-a-lump is scheduled to be removed Tuesday morning at LDS hospital during an out-patient surgery. Ironically, the last day of radiation for the other chest lump is Monday, the day before.

To aid in Shelli's recovery process, Lance and the kids will remain in Pocatello through Wednesday. Visits during those few days are always appreciated, and then the get together at Ganel's house Thursday evening is still on. It's always nice to have fun things to look forward to throughout all the annoying procedures and treatments!

If you all would be so kind, a few specific items to include in your prayers would be fantastic. :) The effectual fervent prayers of the righteous availeth much! (James 5:16)

1. Please pray that the lump they are taking out is found to be FREE of cancer. (Adding breast cancer to the list of things-to-be-treated would really complicate things.)

2. Please pray that the doctors will be guided to an EFFECTIVE treatment regime for Shelli. (They are currently considering some powerful oral chemo agents that will not compromise Shelli's immune system quite as much as the past intravenous attempts.) They will also be adding a clotting factor and immune boosters, thankfully.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! You are all wonderful and supportive ladies and I so appreciate you.

Please call, email, or message me with any questions or ideas of how we can be a more effective and supportive team!

Thanks,

Tiffany
